The little French town of Aubusson gave birth to one of the world’s most loved carpets, the richly romantic and surpassingly elegant rugs of the same name. These rugs originated in the 18th century when luxury knew no bounds and France was the principal inspiration for artists and craftsmen of all kinds. In the mid-1700’s, the Kings of France set their artisans to work to create an art form that would complement the fine furnishings and paintings of the era. With their floral imagery, decorative borders and soft colorations.
Aubusson’s not only proved to be the ideal designs for the time, they have achieved a timelessness that has made them a favorite in homes everywhere some 250 years later. Azhar’s collection of fine Aubusson weave carpets is exact re-creations of the carpets for the court of Louis XIV.
